'Shore Things' - illustration for Observer Food Monthly

Great to be involved with this summer double page illustration spread for Observer Food Monthly today. Top chefs reveal their secret places to eat on the UK coastline.

The New Republic illustrations

A recent commission for the American political magazine The New Republic. A growing campaign to cancel student debt is now gaining ground, with even the new president sitting up & taking notice.

'My Autobiography of Carson McCullers' cover illustration

Thrilled to be involved with the author Jenn Shapland’s book ‘An Autobiography of Carson McCullers’. A previous illustration of mine for The Guardian from 2008 has been re-used for the cover of this National Book Award Finalist novel & I’m delighted with the results. Shapland weaves her own story with McCullers’s to create a vital new portrait of one of America’s greatest literary treasures. A lovely surprise just in time for Christmas.

Clarkson New Book

The last in the Clarkson cover series arrives in the post today & I could’nt be happier with the results. Can You Make This Thing Go Faster? sees Clarkson morphing into a Gentleman Farmer, driving around on his tractor! Thanks again to Penguin for making this & all the other covers happen.

Clarkson Paperbacks

Great to see all the illustrations together for the re-issued Jeremy Clarkson series. Fantastic to work with the team over at Penguin earlier this year, from what began as artwork for his new book ‘Really?’ this soon turned into a much larger commission to redesign all nine from the back catalogue.

Favini reportage illustrations

Delighted with the results from this recent commission from the guys at Silk Pearce, a brilliant design agency based in Colchester for Favini, one of Italy’s leading quality paper merchants. Working from photographs, I was able to recreate in the reportage style the hustle & bustle of the process in which some of the countries best paper is made, from start to finish.

FT Weekend Illustrations

A pleasure to be asked back for a really quick turnaround commission for the Financial Times. This time the story centres around the double life of Jan Marsalek, and one of Germany’s biggest frauds. My first front page illustration & I’m delighted with the results.

Jeremy Clarkson cover for Penguin

Fantastic to be asked by Penguin Random House to put together a series of new illustrations of Jeremy Clarkson for his new biography Really? plus eight other re-issued titles from previous years. Portrait designs of the man himself coupled with simple blanket colours make for a really impactful series, the first of which is available to buy now.

British Airways High Life Magazine

A recent commission that required all my skills of both composition & likeness in the characters that all played their own part in British Airways 100 year history. This piece for the in flight magazine High Life, visually describes the many famous faces that have taken to the air over the years, Churchill, The Beatles & Queen Elizabeth (a princess as she was at the time) all rubbing shoulders in the same cabin! Very pleased with the results.

Adam Neumann illustration for The Financial Times

My illustration of the entrepreneur behind the WeWork phenomenon Adam Neumann appears in the Financial Times ‘Long Read’ section both online & in print. A great first time opportunity to work for this paper & I’m loving the results.

Mortimer & Whitehouse book 'Gone Fishing'

It’s been quite a while in the planning but it’s finally here. A commission from the lovely people at Bonnier Books, a cover for the new Bob Mortimer & Paul Whitehouse book Gone Fishing that hit the shelves last week. The hugely popular BBC series from last year sparked this little gem that in it’s first week of publication had already shot to the top of the book & audio bestseller charts. A pleasure to catch up with them both for a book signing which happened on the 30th May in central London.

The Art of the Sketchbook

Delighted to announce that some of my sketches plus a short interview in connection with my working practice are featured in the forthcoming title 'The Art of the Sketchbook' beautifully published by Sandu. Available from next month.

The Baffler Magazine Illustrations

I always like it when I receive a commission from the States, this time from The Baffler, a bi-monthly publication of left-leaning political, cultural, and economic criticism and analysis, with a healthy sense of humour and wit that has been in existence since 1988. The story concerns a first-person essay about a writer who went from post-doctoral academic work to working on rail maintenance on commuter trains just outside of Boston. Thrilled with the results & the team were an absolute dream to work with

Wharton Magazine Illustrations

Another American commission. This time for the University of Pennsylvania’s quarterly Wharton Magazine in which I contributed five editorial pieces plus a handful of headshots for the contributors for the article in connection with the University’s collaborations with various worldwide institutions.

English Heritage Illustrations

November last year saw the start of this unique collaboration with English Heritage in connection with a permanent exhibition & new visitors centre based in the village of Corbridge along Hadrian's Wall in the heart of Northumberland. For a period of over 300 years, this Roman village evolved from a military complex into a striving civilian community & my illustrations of both artefacts found on site & adaptions of what many of the streets would have looked like will take centre stage in this modern visitors building fit for the 21st Century.

Reportage illustration for the new look Trafalgar St James Hotel

Early last year I was approached by Peter Millard & Partners, specialists in producing unique and exciting artwork schemes for hotel and luxury residential interiors, to supply a London reportage drawing for the new look Trafalgar St James. The artwork appears in every guest room in the hotel. Lovely to see the finished product, thanks to all those involved.

Laurie Anderson Illustrations

It's been an exciting project that I had to keep under wraps for just over a year. A collaboration with the American avant-garde artist/musician Laurie Anderson for her autobiography 'All The Things I Lost In The Flood' published by Rizzoli in which I contributed artwork for the cover plus seven more pieces inside the book that illustrates her early life, working from photographs that covers her extensive & varied career. It's been an immense pleasure to work alongside Laurie & her team. I was lucky enough to be invited along to a New York book launch party at her apartment earlier this month.

The new look 'Observer Food Monthly'

Great to be part of the new look 200th issue of the Observer Food Monthly with an illustration of the American singer-songwriter Randy Newman to kick off the new year. I've been producing a piece for the 'Lunch With' section since 2011 so it's nice to still be on board for the stylish re-design.

Artists profile-short film

The Instagram travel sketches have been a big success this year, so much so that I thought it fitting with the help of a wonderful short film maker Chris Hopkins to put together a profile of myself, my thoughts & working methods. It was a great experience & provides a little insight into an average day once I'm out there looking for inspiration to hit me.
